Barry R. Basden, O.D.
Dr. Basden is a lifelong resident of the Shoals area. He attended Deshler High School in Tuscumbia before receiving his undergraduate degree from Auburn University. His Doctorate degree is from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Basden began his optometric practice in Florence in September of 1991. Since that time, he has examined over 15,000 patients in the Shoals area, Northwest Alabama, and Southern Tennessee.
Dr. Basden provides comprehensive eyecare including vision care and medical care. He excels in managing eye injuries, infection and disease. Dr. Basden routinely fits specialty contact lenses for patients who require or request unusual lenses. He fits disposable lenses, toric (astigmatism)lenses, bifocal lenses as well as lenses that hide cosmetic blemishes. We fit both rigid and soft lenses.
Dr. Basden welcomes both new and established patients.

Benjamin W. Kachelman,O.D.
Dr. Kachelman joined Dr. Basden and Florence Eye Center on June 19, 2006. He is a native of Hazel Green, Alabama where he attended Hazel Green High School. He earned his undergraduate degree from Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tennessee and his doctorate degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry. Dr. Kachelman and his wife, Hope, look forward to making the Shoals their home. They are expecting their first child in the Fall of 2007. Dr. Kachelman speaks Spanish fluently and looks forward to offering his services to Spanish speaking patients. Dr. Kachelman is accepting patients for routine eyecare services as well as diagnosis and treatment of eye disease. Dr. Kachelman also offers vision therapy services for patients who have difficulty changing focus or maintaining proper eye alignment. Dr. Kachelman is a provider for Medicare, BCBS, Medicaid, VSP, EyeMed, Spectera, Davis Vision, and most other medical insurances.

Kathryn A. Howard, O.D.
Dr. Basden and Dr. Kachelman wish Dr. Kathryn Howard the best of luck as she returns home to Dexter, Missouri to continue her career in eyecare.
Dr. Howard worked at both the Florence and Tuscumbia offices from August of 2008 to May 2009 offering our patients the very best in eyecare.
We were honored to have her work here with us and will miss her. We know her greatest successes are yet to come.

Heather Davis
Heather joined our practice in May of 2003 and has quickly become a driving force in both our Florence and Tuscumbia locations. She now manages both locations as well as serving our patients as our Optometric technician and optician (when needed). Heather's knowledge of eyecare and eyewear can only be achieved by hard work and experience. We are fortunate to have her in our practice. Heather has been a driving force in the growth of both locations. She has dedicated herself to making Florence and Tuscumbia Eye Centers the best eyecare offices in the Shoals area. She is currently very busy helping design our new Florence location on Cox Creek Parkway.

Amanda Lard
Amanda is our lead optician in our Florence office. Amanda has 9 years of experience as an optician in the Shoals area. She received certification as a Hoya Honors expert. Amanda has extensive knowledge of eyeglasses frames and lenses. She routinely assists our patients with both basic eyeglasses as well as specialty eyewear. Come in ask Amanda about our designer frames from Silhouette, Vera Wang, Cynthia Rowley, Kate Spade, Gucci, Timberland, Gant and many more. She can also answer any of your questions regarding Thin & Light lenses, Transitions, Polarized sun lenses, Progressive Bifocal lenses, and Non-Glare coatings. We are proud to have her on our Eyecare Team.
